  • How do I book a door supervisor course?

You are also more than welcomed to schedule an appointment to visit us at our training centre to speak with a training consultant in person.
  • What are the benefits of taking the SIA Door Supervisor Course opposed to the SIA Security Guard Course?
    Both course provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work in the security sector. However, the benefit of the SIA Door Supervisor course is that it enables you to work in licensed environments. Whilst also includes Physical Intervention as part of the course, teaching learners the necessary knowledge, safety considerations and safe technical applications to physically engage and/or intervene with people as a pro-active means of de-escalation.
  • How long is the course?
    All learners are instructed to complete pre-course learning (as per T&Cs) that equates to a total of 11hrs. As a result, the course is delivered over 5-days. It is however, a prerequisite that all learners have a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 12-months or more. If not, it is mandatory to allow for an extra day to complete the Emergency First Aid at Work (discounted bolt-on Emergency First Aid at Work is available when booking).
  • When will I receive my exam results?
    Exams are completed after each module and submitted to the awarding body along with assessments documents once the course is completed. Full course results (exam and assessment criteria) are confirmed 5-9 working days thereafter submission. Or within 5 working days if the awarding body implements LMS (Learners Management Systems).
  • When will I receive my certificates?
    Certificates are generated within 5 working days of result publication. An electronic/digital version will be emailed immediately thereafter publication. Or you may request a posted certificate at an additional cost of £15.99 + Postage.
  • What entry level qualification do I need to enrol?
    All learners will be expected to have a basic entry level comprehension and understanding of the English Language. An Initial English Competency Assessment will be carried out at the registration stage of enrolment. Which must be completed prior to further continuation of your course. As a prerequisite all learners MUST hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification, with a minimum of 12 months prior to expiry. The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification can be added as a bolt-on and is completed a few days prior to the commencement of the course.
  • Is there pre-course distance learning and must it be completed before attending the course?
    Yes – Prior to attending the course all pre-course distance learning material must be completed and submitted to Skylark Training via our submissions page or emailed to info@skylarktraining.uk (title folder with your full name). Full details are in the joining instruction document, received once booking is confirmed. The pre-course distance learning material consists of the following: Self-study digital reading material course book ‘The Principles of Working in The Private Security Industry’ Self-study digital Workbook ‘The Principles of Working in The Private Security Industry’ ACT Awareness ACT Security All pre-course distance learning contributes to a minimum of 10-hrs. ACT certificates will need to be submitted along with the completed PWIPSI workbook answer document NOTE – Pre-course distance learning is mandatory and MUST be completed and submitted prior to attending your course. Failure to do so will result in rescheduling your attendance and the possibility of incurring a re-admission fee of £170.00.
  • What happens if I fail my course?
    Subject to whether you have failed to meet assessment criteria or passed the exams, we offer the following options and support: Failure to meet assessment criteria – You will be offered an alternative date to revisit and repeat the relevant module and assessment observations. At a single cost of £85.00. To re-sit/re-book one or more exams – You will be required to pay a fee of £170.00 which, includes all admin costs
  • Do I require Identification?
    Yes – It is a regulatory requirement that specified identification is checked prior to commencement of the course, for all security related courses. A full list of acceptable identification can be found on the following link [Skylark Training - Identification Type A B Guide]. Which must be physically available on day 1 of your course. NOTE: As part of exam conditions and government guidelines, you will be required to have Type A physical form of ID when sitting all exams. Failure to have ID present, will result in you not being able to sit the exam. Thus needing to re-book to an alternative date, incurring a fee of £170.00.
  • When can I apply for my SIA License?
    Once you have your results and you have passed, you can apply immediately thereafter for your SIA License.
  • Is there a fee for the SIA License?
    Yes – When submitting your application to SIA for your license, there is an Application processing fee of £190.00 payable directly to the Security Industry Authority ‘SIA’. Once the SIA have completed their vetting process and have approved your application (refer to SIA License Application T&Cs). You will be issued a Door Supervisor SIA License number, valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
  • What is required after the 3-year license period has expired?
    Your license lasts for a maximum of 3-years (unless suspended or revoked). Thereafter you will need to complete a 2-day Door Supervisor Top-Up course (3 days if your Emergency First Aid at Work has expired). Once you have been issued your results, you may apply for an updated Door Supervisor SIA License. NOTE – It is illegal to work without a valid license. Therefore, industry recommendation is that you schedule your DS Top-up 3-months prior to expiry, allowing adequate time for your license application to be processed prior to the expiry date.
  • Is the Door Supervisor SIA License recognised in other countries?
    No – The SIA Door Supervisor license is only valid and recognised in the United Kingdom
